Account linking
Account linking allows customers to connect their existing accounts from different identity sources, such as external identity providers or social logins, to a single local account. This ensures a seamless login experience while maintaining secure and flexible access across platforms.

The account linking screen appears when a customer logs in using a new external identity provider account not yet associated with their local Strivacity account. Customers are prompted to link the new identity provider to their existing account, ensuring they can authenticate using that identity provider in the future.
To enable account linking, go to Policies › Self-service policy and switch on Account linking in the Account registration section.
Requirements for account linking
Identity store requirements:
- Account linking relies on matching the social identity's email address to a local account's email. Therefore, the identity store in use must support email identifiers.
Account linking is not compatible with username or phone identifier-only identity stores.
Account requirements:
- Account linking occurs during social registration and connects a new social identity to an existing local self-service account. Existing social accounts cannot be linked to an existing or new local account.
- Account linking only works if the email address associated with a local account is verified.
Organization-related requirements:
- Account linking checks for matches within the same organization. Accounts in other organizations are not considered.
- For accounts not linked to any organization, account linking will search the non-organizational part of the identity store for matches.
